What is a resume?

A resume  is a document that provides an accurate summary of  your work experience, education, technical skills and achievements for a prospective employer. It is very often required as part of a job application.It is considered as  essential information which allows an employer to assess whether an applicant is a suitable candidate for the job applied.He then could be called for a first round interview.

What do I include in a resume?

Personal Details.
The personal details that could be included are your full name and contact information – this is usually both your residential phone number,your mobile number and the most often used email address.

Career Objective or Summary.

If you’re a recent school or university leaver without much professional experience, you could begin your resume  with a career objective in a short sentence or two.However, If you’ve gained work experience, a career objective is less necessary, you may want to replace it with a career summary,in a short sentence or two.
You need to place either your education or work experience list next, depending on which you’ve achieved more recently.
Education.
You need to List your most recent educational experiences first. You need to Include your qualifications, institutions you studied at and dates of graduation.You could  mention any special awards and any other educational achievements if any.

Work Experience.

You need to List your most recent jobs including the title of your position, name and location of the organization, and the  dates of employment. In point form under each job, you could give a brief overview of your role, professional responsibilities and achievements, and the skills required. Internships,if any  and any volunteer work can also be mentioned here.

Additional Information. You could create headings such as ‘Skills’ or ‘Interests’ and list information that would be relevant to the job you’re applying for. Information that illustrates your proficiency in languages or computer programs could be included here.

References.
It’s always  good to include two to three references at the bottom of your resume. A referee can be a former manager or a  tutor at university. Otherwise, you may wish to write “References available on request”.

 Length of a resume

You need to keep your resume short and concise to make a good  impression.You could consider one to two pages if you have under 10        years of professional experience.
